The Department of Communication at the University of Alaska Anchorage seeks a Term Instructor of Communication starting August 2025. The bipartite position consists of 0.8 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) for instruction and 0.2 FTE for service.

The Department offers a thriving BA in Communication that commenced in Fall 2022, a minor in Communication, and four courses fulfilling the University Communication General Education Requirement (GER). The ideal candidate will havecollege-level experience successfully teaching competitive debate and argumentation. The Department seeks a candidate committed to a collegial climate, motivated to teach in person, and skilled in online pedagogy.

The candidate will be qualified to teach COMM A320 Argumentation and Debate; and COMM A360 Competitive Debating; our GER courses: Fundamentals of Oral Communication, Small Group Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Public Speaking; have a demonstrated commitment to student success, excellence, diversity, and poses strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

To thrive in this role the candidate must have a strong background in communication and college-level competitive debate.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters in Communication or related field, PhD preferred.

Success in teaching college communication courses, specifically argumentation and debate, as well as competitive debating.

Record of college service or demonstrated potential for service.

Position Details:

This position is on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus. This is a full-time, 9-month, term funded, non-tenure track, faculty position with a competitive salary andfull employee benefits package. Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.
