A Diesel Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing diesel-powered vehicles and equipment used in various industries, such as transportation, construction, and logistics. The role requires technical expertise in diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and other mechanical components to ensure vehicles are operating efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Inspection and Diagnostics:
Perform regular inspections on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues through testing and troubleshooting techniques.
Utilize diagnostic equipment and tools to assess engine performance, exhaust systems, and other critical components.
Repair and Maintenance:
Conduct preventative maintenance such as oil changes, brake checks, tire rotations, and fluid replacements.
Repair or replace faulty parts such as engines, transmissions, brake systems, fuel injectors, and electrical wiring.
Address issues related to powertrains, drivetrains, exhaust systems, suspension systems, and more.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of all services, repairs, and inspections performed on each vehicle.
Document maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations.
Track parts inventory and order new parts as necessary.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure that all repairs and maintenance comply with safety regulations and standards set by the company and local authorities.
Adhere to environmental regulations when handling hazardous materials, fluids, and parts disposal.
Perform safety checks to ensure that vehicles are in proper working order before returning them to service.
Customer Service:
Communicate effectively with fleet managers and operators to determine issues and schedule repairs.
Provide explanations regarding vehicle issues and repair options to fleet managers or operators.
Continuous Learning:
Stay up-to-date with advances in diesel engine technology and repair techniques.
Participate in training sessions, workshops, and certifications related to diesel mechanics.
Skills and Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (a technical degree or vocational training is preferred).
Certification from a recognized diesel mechanic program or ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification is a plus.
Proven experience working on diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment.
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and electronic equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of diesel vehicles and machinery.
Good communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
Physical stamina to perform hands-on repairs and work in various weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
