Vacancy expired!

Techno Metal Post Alaska Welder/Installer position (Anchorage with travel)

TMP Alaska is a statewide helical pier foundation company that installs piers for all types of

structures, mostly for decks and similar small structures. Currently, we are repairing many damaged house foundations from the 2018 earthquake.

We are looking for an Anchorage-based welder and installer that can join our local Anchorage crew of 4 and work with our employees from other parts of the state. We are a small company providing a unique product and are looking for someone with a solid welding/construction background willing to learn a new skill. We will train the right individual on the installation aspect of what we do, but an applicant with a AWS D1 certification will be moved to the top of the applicant stack. Please visit our website for more information on what we do: www.tmpalaska.com

What technical skills are needed?

Solid background in construction and experience working safely on construction jobsites.

Current SMAW AWS D1.1 plate certification 3G and 4G positions 1„2" or 1".

A hiring preference is put on those that have 'lead/foreman/PM' experience in construction.

Ability to operate/maintain our installation equipment and vehicles.

Ability to read and understand plans/specifications.

Layout and problem solving skills.

Ability to lift 100# as well as basic physical capabilities common in construction work.

Ability to safely drive and maneuver a truck and trailer in all types of weather situations.

Willingness to take direction. This is something you often read in job postings and to many people it means little. To us, it means everything. You must be able to take instruction and execute it exactly as described. This might be the single most important skill you must have.

Organization. . . another general word which is quite important. Simply put, if you are the guy that forgets his pencil and tape measure every day you will not succeed with us. If you are constantly late for work because your car won't start, you slept in or you lost your keys, you aren't the employee we are looking for.

Who you are?

The words that we think of for our new employees are competence, responsible, capable, organized and dependable. If those words describe you, please continue reading.

You must be able to work productively and completely manage our projects from start to with limited supervision.

Our products and installation are not very common and we realize that our next hire may have never heard of helical piles. We are happy to train you if you are willing and able to learn.

Your previous work experience shows an ability to work independently in places of business or clients' homes.

You must have an Alaska driver's license and clean driving record. You will be required to submit to any requirements our insurance carrier requests, including drug testing.

You must have a current passport. Our work sometimes requires us to transit through Canada to get to South East AK. You will also be required to attend company training in Eastern Canada. If Canada will not let you in for any reason, you will not be hired.

You must be willing to travel; as we work through¬out the entire state including the bush. Our Anchorage position requires traveling about 10% of the time outside the Anchorage/Mat Su area.

You are not scared of technology. We rely heavily on email, on-site credit card processing and other technology to monitor inventory and jobs. We provide the technology; you provide the ability to use it.

You communicate clearly and effectively. You will be asked to represent our company to the public and must be able to competently carry yourself in any type of communication with the outside world.

You are NOT a tobacco user. TMP AK is a tobacco-free workplace; all of our jobsites, offices and vehicles are tobacco and tobacco-related products free.

You are open-minded. We work for, and with, a diverse set of clients and contractors. You will not succeed with us if you cannot approach each new person with an open mind and general respect. We do not discriminate against anyone and do not tolerate employees who do either.

If you have read all of the above, you will see that we are looking for a pretty solid individual. We

have very high standards, but we are also very generous. Our goal is to find and train the right

person to work with us for a long time. We are interested in fostering a long term relationship with

our employees. So what are we putting on the table? Keep reading.

What we offer you?

Pay is based on your performance. We have no problem paying a welder/installer $30 (or more) per hour. You may not start out at that wage, but the right person can easily attain it quickly.

After the initial hire period, we offer paid vacation and sick days.

Flexibility. We demand flexibility in our employees and return it as well. We understand that while work is important, so are other parts of life.

The ability to chart your own path. Our company is a fast growing dealer in a worldwide network of helical pier installers. We will continue growing and adding employees, you are able to grow with us and help shape the company for the future.

Training. After a preliminary period, you will travel to Canada for company training. If you are the right person, we are willing to make this investment in you.

Seasonality. Like many Alaskans, we are subject to working more in certain seasons. 75% of our work occurs between March and November, however each year we are completing more winter work. Need a month off in January? Not a problem, but time off in July might not work out as well. However, this is a year round full time position, you will not be laid off when we are slow. You invest with and we will invest in you.

Opportunity. Since we do most of our work in the summer, we work a lot of overtime. This allows you the luxury of taking that month off if desired. We also compete for and are awarded plenty of "prevailing wage" work.

If you are still reading, you might be our next employee. There is a chance that you are a small contractor looking for more stability but fear losing the independence of working for yourself. Or you might be a lead in another aspect of construction looking for something new. In either case, we might be the perfect employer for you.

If interested, ¬¬please provide us with a detailed resume. Next, reread the above and describe in a few paragraphs how your experience and work ethic might match our needs. Tell us anything that might be relevant. We are especially interested in your construction-related experience. The only way we will read your resume is if it is emailed to us at the email found on our website. Thanks!
