The Recycling Technicians are employed by Green Star of Interior Alaska (a 501(c)(3) non profit) at the Fairbanks Northstar Borough Central Recycling Facility (CRF). The CRF is located at 1855 Marika Rd (off of Aurora).
Recycling Technicians work closely with the CRF Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor And / or Shift Lead to coordinate the intake sorting and processing of recyclable materials. Recyclable materials include paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and jugs #1 & #2, aluminum beverage containers, electronics and household batteries. These materials are sorted, bailed, and stored until the materials are shipped out of the CRF.
Daily activities will primarily include (but not be limited to) diligent sorting of each material to insure carts and super-sacks of each material are free of other materials and / or contaminants and ready to be baled. The Recycling Technician will also be tasked with clearing of warehouse space, maintaining public drive and walkways and assisting the public with drop offs of recycling.
Salary: $15/hr. to start. $16/hr. after 90 day probationary period.
Hours: Full or part time shifts available. The CRF is staffed from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Tuesday - Saturday. Operating hours for public drop-offs are 10-5:30 Tue-Fri and 9-5 on Sat. We can be fairly flexible with hours, but have a preference for full-time employees able to cover shifts during open hours.

Duties & Responsibilities
Primarily responsible for sorting and staging materials for bailing
Process and stage commercial cardboard loads
Loads balers with sorted materials (paper, plastic, cardboard and aluminum)
Removes full super-sacks and carts of raw material from the public drop-off area and insures they are properly sorted and staged for bailing.
Keeps the recycling center clean and free of debris and obstructions
Ensures that all driveways, walkways and exits of the facility and the unloading zones are free of debris and snow
Required Qualifications
Attention to detail.
Ability to communicate well with co-workers and the public.
Situational awareness regarding order-of-events and prioritization of work based on which material will be processed next.
Works well autonomously, and as part of a cohesive team.
Able to follow instructions.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with typical warehouse equipment such as material handling carts, palette jacks, forklift, etc. is a plus, but we will train.
Working Conditions
Perform tasks while sitting, standing and walking.
Will occasionally be required to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
Working in a warehouse environment where conditions will vary with seasons and location.
Occasionally spend some time outside in the elements assisting with public drop off of raw materials.
