Job DescriptionThis role offers the following Work Appropriately strategy:Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite up to 3 times per week .Location : Austin, TX; Chandler, AZ; Roswell, GA; Warren, MIThe role as a W orkload Optimization Engineer will be responsible and accountable for managing the attainment of critical batch workloads that support the daily GM business. The role interfaces with platform and development teams to improve job performance, identify root causes, and optimize job streams that continuously improves SLA attainment. The role will utilize their experience in ETL and associated technologies to ensure data and reporting is on-time for all the GM business units that depend on the GM Data Lake. Responsibilities include leading meets for status and root cause analysis, provide reporting to teams and upper management, influence and drive peer teams to timely resolution of issues. Additional, tasks may involve the coordinating and managing vendor response to incidents, and development of short and long term plans to address such issues as they exist in the environment.In this exciting and visible role, you will be responsible and accountable for monitoring and optimizing the critical daily big data and streaming data workloads that run the GM business.This will include:

Working knowledge of job streams and their technology and dependencies

Working knowledge of workload scheduling and management tools such as Autosys, Tidal, Oozie, and AirFlow

Working with developers and platform teams to root cause job performance issues and develop and drive remediation of issues.

Working with reporting portals such as PowerBI to create and maintain SLA reporting

Familiarity and working knowledge of monitoring and alerting system capabilities such as Prometheus, Grafana and similar tools.

Being a pivotal force in multi-functional teams to help quickly resolve SLA attainment issues

Run daily meetings to review previous nights job processing and SLA review and job status

Tracking of SLA achievement, identification of key service level indicators/objectives and appropriate response to SLO misses.

Responsibility for standardized and adhoc reporting to upper management, working collaboratively with platform teams for a wholistic view of the SLAs, working with application teams to resolve issues on meeting SLAs

Demonstrated ability to work across teams and technology stacks to influence priorities to ensure that optimizations and improvements are prioritized appropriately to meet key SLA requirements.

Constructive and proactive integration with the various engineer teams that support the underlying platforms along with the development teams that build workload running on the platforms.

Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors. Models GM behaviors and creates a forward-thinking culture.

KnowledgeThe role requires advanced knowledge of the Kubernetes, Spark, ETL tools, Hadoop, networking, storage, and knowledge of general IT concepts. Thorough knowledge of system design principles to include reliability, availability, scalability, knowledge of peripheral domains is necessary.Additional Job Description

5+ years experience with ETL, data ingestion, and batch workloads

3+ years experience in ETL development

Experience in full stack troubleshooting and performance analysis

Experience in troubleshooting job throughput and root cause analysis

Ability to integrate application and platform performance issues, architectures, and best practices

Ability to perform on a high-performance team​

Ability to optimize the performance of jobs and platforms

Experience working on teams with a heavy emphasis on DevOps

Good problem-solving skills and ability to work in SRE framework

Understanding of on-prem Data Lake, Azure (cloud data lake), and Kubernetes
