About the Tutor Position:
We are looking for energetic, positive individuals to work as teachers at The Dyslexia Connection, a reading, writing, and spelling learning center. We teach students of all ages to read and comprehend to their potential, primarily those with a dyslexia diagnosis or other learning disabilities. You do NOT need to have a background in special education or dyslexia.
Our instruction is based on an Orton-Gillingham based program, the Barton Reading and Spelling program. This is a researched and evidence based program that is highly structured, systematic, multi-sensory and explicit, which is what these struggling readers need in order to become successful in the classroom. We do use other programs as well, which will be discussed thoroughly in the training process.
As part of the The Dyslexia Connection team, the Instructor works one-to-one with students, working through the programs until success, completion, or potential is reached.
Looking for Teachers with the following:
Use of guided discovery for student success and key teaching strategy.
Patience and creativity are vital. Most of our students also struggle with attention issues. It is our job to engage them in creative ways, and to not lose their overall awareness of the lesson, because "Not all great minds learn alike."
Background in education and teaching experience a must.
Excellent reading, spelling, and comprehension skills.
Passion for students, education, and the love of learning.
Ability to interact with clients/parents in a professional, warm, and friendly manner. Exuding professionalism, and confidence that you are the perfect fit for their child as they embark on a journey of dyslexia and tutoring.
Ability to be self-directed, strong time management skills, and ability to handle autonomy required. This position is very client focused, as clients stay with a particular tutor for two to three years. This requires a lot of relationship building with clients and students is necessary to have a positive working relationship.
Interest and desire to further education and knowledge in aspects of advocacy, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADD/ADHD.
Hours:
Primarily Monday-Thursday 2-6, with opportunities to work during the day at nearby schools.
Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one instruction based upon each client's learning needs
Work with manager to implement and create unique learning situations as needed.
Interact positively and professionally with clients and staff to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
Provide proper short monthly reports to manager for upcoming month.
