Job Description

Facilities Development and Management, Capital Programs Management Group, seeks a Construction Inspector. Sr. to inspect commercial buildings and related systems to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, and compliance with contract documents and specifications. This position may supervise others within the department.

Salary Range

$72,000 – $79,000 per year commensurate of experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Essential Duties

Perform building inspections for renovation and new construction projects ensuring procedures and materials comply with specifications.

Perform plan reviews of drawings to ensure compliance with appropriate building codes and project requirements.

Observe work in progress to assure conformance with requirements and acceptable workmanship.

Prepare reports, documents inspections and issue notices or letters.

Photograph property conditions and maintain required records.

Supervise special inspections.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 6:00am-3:00pm

Minimum Qualifications

Eight (8) years of experience in commercial construction, which includes two (2) years of experience as an inspector and possess and maintain a valid Building Inspector certification and certification from one (1) additional discipline, e.g. Plumbing Code, Electrical Code, Mechanical Code, and obtain an additional certification within six (6) months of employment, (to equal a minimum of three certifications) by the International Code Council or other nationally recognized agency conducting written examinations or technical competency in the field of building inspection; OR, Completion of a four (4) year federally approved technical training program and four (4) years of experience in commercial construction, which includes two (2) years of experience as an inspector AND possess and maintain a Building Inspector certification and certification from one (1) additional discipline, e.g. Plumbing Code, Electrical Code, Mechanical Code and obtain an additional certification within six (6) months of employment, (to equal a minimum of three certifications) by the International Code Council or other nationally recognized agency conducting written examinations of technical competency in the field of building inspection; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Experience in:

Two (2) years supervisory experience

Using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Working Environment

Access various construction sites and campus tunnels to perform visual construction inspections which involves stooping, walking on uneven surfaces, kneeling, crawling in confined spaces, climbing stairs and ladders.

Working on scaffolding, and standing and walking for long periods of time in extreme summer temperatures.

Lift, bend, and carry objects up to 30 pounds.

Utilize computer, telephone, and office equipment.

Provide customer service.

Communicate effectively.

Potential exposure to asbestos.

Position requires the person to wear a respirator

Drive University vehicles/carts.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license upon employment and maintain throughout employment. A Department of Motor Vehicle search will be conducted. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.

Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment to include asbestos worker clearance, respiratory clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test. May participate in programs which involve adherence to program regulations, including physical exam, annual testing, x-rays, medication, vaccinations at ASU expense, and completion of a Health Surveillance Questionnaire.

This position is dependent on the continuation of funding from a specific source other than state appropriations. As such, this appointment may terminate when the funding is no longer available.
