Enterprise-wide information technology is centralized in the Information Technology Services (ITS) department. Technology professionals with the City work on critical systems supporting the enterprise, and provide services to Phoenix residents and businesses. The ITS department is seeking an NSX Network Engineer – Senior Information Technology Systems Specialist to provide engineering services in support of the City’s virtualized computing environment. This position is the City’s technical lead for the implementation and management of network virtualization security for the City’s shared enterprise computing environment and is critical to the security of city on-premise and cloud computing infrastructure.

As a member of the Enterprise Infrastructure Services Team, this position will perform hands-on implementation of virtual network and security configurations, verify their functionality, and provide day-to-day operations and maintenance support for the City’s virtualized computing environment.

This position will be responsible for the design, deployment and adoption of NSX technologies to secure the City’s virtual computing systems and city data. Additional responsibilities will include working with business and application development specialists to coordinate the provisioning of NSX solutions to properly secure on-premise and cloud computing infrastructures including storage, hosts and services; improving customized outlines using NSX, vRA, and vRO to automate and simplify tasks; monitor the automation of network deployment and configuration, along with the integration of infrastructure (computer/storage) automation; and use established processes for Change, Incident, Problem, and Service Request management based on ITIL principles and practices.

Successful candidates will have a passion for cutting-edge technologies including the latest developments in SDN, automation/orchestration and overlay technologies. They will also have deep technical and business knowledge of cloud computing and networking applications, industry directions, and trends.

SALARY
$71,926 - $109,470 annually. Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years of experience as an Information Technology Systems Specialist involving database management and on-line telecommunications;
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

    Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background standards. Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Proven experience in designing, deploying and managing VMware NSX deployments.
  • Minimum four years of hands-on experience in systems and networking administration within a VMware environment.
  • Minimum two years of experience supporting virtual servers in a multi segmented, routed and firewalled data center environment.
  • Minimum four years of experience implementing and supporting virtual Windows, Red Hat Linux or Solaris servers in environment with no fewer than 200 servers.
  • Minimum three years of experience working with server backup software to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery requirements and/or expectations are met.
  • Demonstrated experience with virtual networking components such as NSX Edge Appliances, distributed firewalls, distributed logical routers, distributed and standard virtual switches.
  • Automation scripting experience in Python, PowerShell, JavaScript or other scripting language.
  • Experience as a technical team lead in a large company or government agency.
