APS has opportunities in their Pre-Apprentice Substation Electrician program for individuals pursuing an Electrician Apprenticeship. The Pre-Apprentice will assist Substation Electrician crews with various tasks including repair/install/replace conduit, duct banks, and sweeps; rigging; operate hydraulic tools; operate boom truck & forklift; working from aerial lifts; install poles, trenches, and working in confined spaces, etc. They will rotate to various areas within the organization to gain experience in their fields. Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
Must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D. prior to the application closing.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Must have a valid Manual Transmission Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). No mechanical restrictions i.e., airbrakes (Must have taken CDL test in a vehicle with a manual transmission and air brakes).
Must have completed one of the following: college level "Introduction to College Algebra" course (MAT-091, the equivalent of i.e., MAT-090, MAT-092 or higher), NJATC Technical Mathematics course, or equivalent with a grade of "C" or better.
Must be physically qualified to meet the requirements of the job and display the aptitude, attitude and adaptability necessary for the trade.
This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300 lbs or less
Selected candidates who have met the minimum qualifications will be subject to the following requirements:
Must successfully pass the Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) CAST Aptitude test.
Selected candidates that have not already completed the CAST test or are eligible to retest will be invited to take the CAST test as part of the selection process
Must meet the requirements of the essential job functions assessment prior to participating in any physical field evaluation.
Must successfully pass a physical field evaluation.
Must successfully complete an interview.

Additional requirements for selected candidates:
Selected candidates must start in mid-April 2025.
Reasonable and necessary overtime is required.
Work under the terms and conditions of the Pre-Apprenticeship Agreement.
If selected as a Pre-Apprentice Substation Electrician, you will need to travel to the Metro (Phoenix metro area) and State Region (regional locations throughout the state of Arizona) areas.
Successful candidates must live within reasonable distance (1 hour) from assigned headquarters.
The established headquarters for this position is subject to relocation to the Hub West Service Center, a facility that will be located 38 miles west of downtown Phoenix, on a date to be determined by the Company.
