Position Overview:
The Laboratory assistant/ Accessioner is responsible for entry-level laboratory duties and accessioning human blood and urine specimens.
Required Qualifications (Work Experience and/or Education):
Position Requirements:
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Art degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology or in the chemical or biological sciences.
Desired Qualifications (Work Experience and/or Education):
Ability to work independently with little supervision.
Ability to complete daily tasks accurately due to laboratory compliance.
Strong work ethic, detail oriented, punctual, organized, personable, reliable and dependable.
One to two years working in a laboratory environment preferred.
Experience working with Beckman Coulter chemistry instruments and/ or Sysmex hematology instruments.
Experience working with LIMS, MS Word, and MS Excel.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Laboratory Assistant:
Assists MLT and follows SOPs for processing specimens.
Troubleshoot any specimen related issues with MLT.
Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance
as directed by MLT or supervisor.
Replenish test bench supplies at the end of each shift.
Help ensure laboratory bench area is neat and clean including disposing of biohazard trash.
Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested.
Follow CLIA, COLA, and HIPAA guidelines and standard operating procedures.
Adhere to all HIPAA confidentiality requirements and complete all training.
Adhere to Compliance, Code of Ethics, and complete all training.
Accessioner:
Enter patient information received from clients into laboratory database for all types
of specimens efficiently and accurately.
Identifies and communicates discrepancies to appropriate departments Pipettes and
prepares specimens with proper labeling for scientists.
Prepare to send out testing for specimens every day.
Help ensure the laboratory area is neat and clean.
Supports non-scientific duties as assigned by lab manager.
Adhere to all HIPAA confidentiality requirements and complete all training.
Adhere to Compliance, Code of Ethics, and complete all training.
Communicate any concerns and issues daily with supervisor/ lab manager.
Physical Requirements:
Light to moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 35 Ibs.) Heavier weights with assistance
Standing for extended periods of time
Repetitive motions and/or prolonged computer use
Working at a fast pace, subject to many interruptions and both physical and mental stress
Wear provided proper personal protective equipment to include a lab coat, gloves, and face shield.
Air-conditioned laboratory environment
Exposure to some odorous chemicals and specimens
