JOB TITLE: ETCH/Chemical & Heat Treat Operator

DEPARTMENT: Chemical Operator

Pay Range: $21 an hour

Schedule: 1st shift 6am-2:30pm (must train & complete 1st shift for 8 weeks before moving to 2nd shift)

2nd shift 2pm-10:30pm

JOB SUMMARY:

The Chemical and Heat Treat operator shall be responsible for processing castings thru both an acid etch and caustic core removal bath process, as applicable, while maintaining those baths within procedure controlled tolerances and keeping a record of that processing history. The operator shall be responsible for visual examination of castings to ensure complete core removal and or acceptable etch quality once processed. They shall be responsible for replenishment, removal, storage, and labeling of said chemicals. They shall also perform other job functions such as sandblasting and rough visual inspecting cast components. The operator will be evaluated periodically for productivity (good parts processed/hour) and quality, number of rework returns. Operator will also be responsible for Heat Treat of parts and will need to organize time and multitask between both areas.

The facility greatly values cross-training and a flexible work force in terms of specific job responsibilities, while the operator’s main task shall be chemical processing of castings, the operator should not be opposed to working in other areas such as finishing, rough-clean, or mold preparation in foundry once provided with the appropriate instruction.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. Processing of castings through the caustic core removal process.

2. Processing of castings through the acid etch process in preparation for grain inspection.

3. Maintenance of acid/base (caustic) solutions.

4. Storage/labeling/documentation of chemical processes and materials.

5. Sandblast casting to a sheer finish.

6. Emergency Coordinator – Can be required to fill role of First Responder and/or Incident Commander

7. Manages the hazardous waste & storage including inspections, labeling & marking

8. Other responsibilities as trained and assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must be able to speak, read, and understand English.

· Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time while working castings.

· Must have a minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience in a related field of chemical handling

· HAZWOPER40 Certified (company will sent to training if needed)

· HazMat General Awareness & Hazardous Communication trained

· Must pass a drug screening and background check prior to beginning work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Ability to lift 50 pounds

· Ability to continuously stand or sit

· Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift repetitively

· Ability to wear a respirator if needed (respirator fitted)
