Job description

Quality inspector for OEM product manufacturer (machine shop / machined parts).

Shift Time for this position are 5:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday - Thursday

Job summary

The quality inspector is responsible for using a mix of manual and automated inspection tools and equipment, as well as various IT infrastructure, to verify and document the compliance of parts to their defined specifications and tolerances.

The primary day to day responsibilities might include:

Dimensional inspection of parts (almost exlusively machined parts), ranging from simple to complex, with various degrees of and types of tolerances.

Using computers or other devices to document inspection results according to inspection plans. For new products or where it is currently nonexistent, the quality inspector will create and maintain the documentation to do so.

Use the ERP system (database) to document the state of the part's completion in the process.

This is a non-management position.

Essential Job Functions

Set-up and use standard inspection methods, tools, procedures, and equipment to verify a part's dimensional compliance. (Surface plate, micrometers, height stand, indicators, etc).

Use CMM to verify a part's dimensional compliance.

Use Keyence IM series optical measurement machine to verify a part's dimensional compliance.

Perform and record first piece inspection.

Create and maintain in-process inspection sheets/methods for the machine shop.

Communicate adjustments/edits to the machine shop or to vendors in order to maintain compliance to part specifications.

Inspect production parts and give first part approval per engineering drawings.

Recognize, deploy, and properly use inspection equipment, fixtures, and tooling.

Perform in-process inspection and benching of part during machining cycles.

Sustain quality standards and optimize inspection methods for maximum efficiency/output while maintaining quality and blueprint requirements.

Monitor quality and quickly identify and react to non-conformances as they occur.

Inspector may set up and run long CMM programs and be required to complete other tasks simultaneously.

Identify and support continuous improvement efforts of production processes.

Make accurate and detailed transactions of work done in ERP software.

Adhere to company policies and procedures described in Employment Handbook.

Perform daily and regular cleaning and light inspection equipment and maintenance tasks on inspection tools equipment.

Perform regular department housekeeping duties as necessary.

Compliance with safety standards and guidelines.

Other Duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Requires the ability to follow written instructions, read blueprints, understand GD&T according to ASME Y14 standards, and work to other common industry specifications.

Have a strong experience using standard dimensional inspection methods, tools, procedures, and equipment.

Experience in environments compliant to Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001:2015, and be willing and able to contribute and improve those systems.

We have a CMM that is equipped with PC-DMIS with CAD . We also have 3D CAD models for all products falling under our design activity. The candidate's ability to utilize the CMM with or without a program, while also being able to utilize the software's full capabilities will be viewed as a plus.

Working knowledge of CMM inspection theory, PC-DMIS code, and the ability to edit inspection routines is a plus.

Application of part inspection theory, procedures, and shop mathematics.

Must be able to check material and process certifications for conformance to non-dimensional specifications.

Must work well and be collaborative with others in a team environment.

Be organized, punctual, and reliable.

Possess excellent attention to detail.

Maintains strong communication skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to bend, squat, sit, stand, walk, and handle objects. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull and reach above shoulder level. The employee must be able to carry/lift up to 50 pounds and be able to rotate item being handled.

Manual dexterity and the ability to carry out complex, repetitive tasks quickly and methodically.

Must be able to understand, read, and write English.

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Must be willing to submit to and satisfactorily pass any pre-employment screening required for employment (i.e. drug screen, background check, eye exam, hearing exam, etc.) and any subsequent testing required for the position during employment.
