Summary: Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll be doing as a daycare dog groomer: You’ll be taking care of the adorable pups in our daycare and also grooming clients outside of the daycare. We’re open all year round, so you’ll need to be flexible and work your agreed-upon shifts. Most of your time will be spent standing on your feet, bathing, brushing, drying, clipping, and generally grooming the dogs. You’ll also be scheduling appointments, communicating with the owner, and taking care of the dogs’ laundry. Oh, and don’t forget to keep the grooming area clean and tidy!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Let’s chat about grooming our furry friends!
discuss customer grooming requests,
schedule appointments, and take care of dogs when they’re with us.
We’ll also give them a thorough bath, trim their nails, clean their ears, brush their fur, blow-dry it, clip their nails, shave their paws, and even express their anal glands.
Oh, and we’ll keep all their grooming records and build a great relationship with our customers.
We’ll also promote our services at Central Bark and attend seminars and trade shows to spread the word.
Pay Structure: We share revenue with established clients. For newer groomers, we can negotiate an hourly rate that works for you.
Qualifications: To do this job well, you’ll need to be able to do each job task. The things listed below are what we’re looking for in terms of knowledge, skills, and abilities. If you have a disability, we’ll do our best to help you do the job
Education and/or Experience: We’re looking for someone with some experience handling dogs. This could include owning a pet, working with animals, or attending dog training and behavior seminars. Training sessions and seminars may be held during non-working hours, so you’ll need to be available. Grooming experience is also required. This could be a formal grooming degree or gained experience as an apprentice to an experienced groomer.
Physical Skills: You’ll need to be able to do a bunch of physical tasks, like lifting at least 50 pounds (like a bag of dog food, a crate, or a dog), and standing for a while. You’ll also need to be able to grasp, pinch, and pull to leash and collar dogs, and to do the repetitive motions of grooming them.
Health: Just a friendly reminder that all of you need to stay up-to-date on your Tetanus vaccinations. Stay safe and healthy!
Language Skills: You’ll need to be able to read dog information like names, medication, and feeding instructions. You’ll also need to be able to talk to management about any dog issues, whether it’s written or spoken. And last but not least, you’ll need to keep a clear record of all the grooming you do.
Mathematical Skills: You’ll need basic measuring and counting skills to help with cleaning, medications, feedings, and counting change back to customers.
Computer Skills: A basic understanding of Windows based applications is helpful.
Reasoning Ability: This is all about being able to break down problems, analyze emergencies, and think quickly on your feet. It’s also about dealing with customers who might be a bit crazy, but you’ll still be able to handle it rationally.
