Job Summary-
The fire sprinkler technician - lead is responsible for inspecting, servicing, and troubleshooting fire sprinkler systems and devices to the prescribed NFPA standards, as well as hose systems, fire mains, backflows, fire pumps and hood systems. This position will also serve in a lead capacity to train and mentor other sprinkler technicians in the field. The fire sprinkler technician uses mechanical aptitude to understand how to operate and repair fire suppression equipment, as well as a working knowledge of fire suppression systems.
Duties and Responsibilities-
Train and mentor sprinkler technicians
Test and inspect the operability of water-based systems and/or sprinkler systems, and backflows.
Perform system tests for leaks, pressure issues and water flow issues using air and liquid pressure equipment
Make repairs by replacing fire sprinkler heads, pressure gauges, control valves, water flow switches, and backflows, etc.
Ability to communicate with office staff and service technicians the precise materials needed to repair defective systems
Ability to lead a team and work effectively and efficiently with fire alarm inspectors
Weld and solder pipes to create joints and attach pipes to fixtures
Clean and modify current sprinkler systems
Ability to turn off and on sprinkler systems as well as drain
Ensure compliance to fire codes
Demonstrate systems for customers and explain causes and consequences of false alarms and educate customers on preventative care and maintenance
Complete and produce reports that are accurate and detailed
Stay current with code requirements and industry changes per NFPA 72
Attend and complete all required safety training
Perform other related duties as assigned or required
Qualifications-
Does not take short-cuts and works effectively/efficiently while performing all aspects of the required job
Knowledge of various fire systems and tools
Ability to use a computer and read blueprints
Detail-oriented/high precision
Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch and climb ladders multiple times a day
Ability to travel to multiple job sites each day
Requirements-
Eight (8) years previous relevant work experience
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
Able to carry and move tools and equipment up to 50 lbs
Ability to work flexible hours including on-call rotation nights and weekends to meet customer needs
Preferences-
CSA certification
NICET II certification
Backflow certification a plus
Knowledge working in ServiceTrade
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
