Job Overview:
Installs, maintains, and repairs piping systems in commercial buildings, industrial sites, and construction projects. The work involves interpreting blueprints and schematics, selecting the correct materials, and ensuring systems function safely and efficiently. The pipefitter works with various piping materials like cast iron, bolt up and working up to 24 inch pipe.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation of Piping Systems:
Install pipes and related systems for heating, water, gas, air, and other utilities.
Follow building blueprints, plans, and specifications to determine pipe placement and installation methods.
System Maintenance and Repairs:
Inspect and troubleshoot piping systems, identify issues, and perform necessary repairs.
Replace or repair damaged sections of pipes and related fixtures.
Cutting, Welding, and Fabrication:
Cut, thread, and assemble pipe sections using various tools (pipe cutters, welders, etc.).
Use welding equipment to join pipes, and other advanced fabrication techniques as required.
Ensure Compliance:
Ensure all piping work adheres to local, state, and national plumbing and safety codes.
Maintain records of all installed or repaired systems and completed work.
Safety and Cleanliness:
Follow safety guidelines for handling hazardous materials and using tools and equipment.
Maintain a clean work environment, keeping tools and work areas organized.
Teamwork and Communication:
Work closely with other construction trades (electricians, HVAC technicians, etc.).
Communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, and team members to ensure projects are completed on time.
Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in pipefitting techniques, including welding, cutting, and threading pipes.
Familiarity with various pipe materials such as copper, PVC, cast iron, steel, and galvanized pipes.
Blueprint Reading:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to plan the installation or repair of piping systems.
