Caridad Community Kitchen, a program of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, is accepting applications for the 10-week Culinary Training Program. This program is for individuals interested in gaining skills and employment in the culinary, restaurant and food industry. The program runs Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 4:00PM.
The next training class will run from August 19, 2024 - October 25, 2024.
Students will receive training on classic culinary skills, food safety, career readiness, and more from our experienced instructors. Students receive hands-on experience in our commercial kitchen, and will also participate in a one week internship at a restaurant. Students will receive a $300/week stipend while in the training program.
Ideal candidates meet the following criteria:
1. Adult: over the age of 18
2. Low-income
3. Employment eligibility: legal right to work in the U.S.A.
4. Employment-seeking initiative: earnest desire and need to work and make an income; currently seeking employment
5. Basic literacy skills: able to read, write, and communicate in English at an 8th grade level
6. Physically capable: able to tolerate a hot or cold kitchen environment, stand for 6+ hours a day, and lift 50 pounds
7. Safety: Able to wear a mask all day, except when eating or drinking.
8. Schedule availability: able to attend class from 9AM-4PM, Monday through Friday, for ten weeks
9. Commitment to industry: commitment to food industry with understanding of employment expectations (e.g. work hours, benefits, average wage)
10. Housing: secure place to live with running water for the duration of the ten-week program
11. Means of transportation: reliable transportation to and from Caridad Community Kitchen
12. Behavioral stability (if applicable): behavioral health maintained through medication and/or agency support
13. Coachability: desire to listen to feedback and improve oneself throughout the ten-week program
