Activities Coordinator Job Description

Position Overview:

As an Activities Coordinator, you play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in our assisted living facility. Your primary responsibility is to create and organize engaging activities that you will do that promote social interaction, mental stimulation, and physical well-being. You’ll collaborate with residents, families, and staff to ensure a vibrant and fulfilling living experience. Activities can be anything ranging from Bingo to Music, games, in-chair exercises/ movement, and anything else you think of.

Key Responsibilities:

Activity Planning and Execution:

Develop a diverse calendar of activities, considering residents’ interests, abilities, and preferences.

Organize group outings, arts and crafts sessions, exercise classes, games, and other recreational events.

Facilitate activities that promote cognitive function, emotional well-being, and physical health.

Resident Engagement:

Build meaningful relationships with residents, understanding their individual needs and desires.

Encourage participation in activities, addressing any barriers or concerns.

Foster a sense of community and camaraderie among residents.

Event Coordination:

Help arrange resident birthday celebrations

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of resident participation in activities.

Document any changes in residents’ preferences or abilities.

Provide regular reports to management on program effectiveness.

Collaboration:

Work closely with nursing staff, caregivers, and other team members.

Seek input from residents and families when planning activities.

Attend staff meetings and contribute to facility-wide initiatives.

Safety and Well-Being:

Ensure a safe environment during activities.

Monitor residents’ well-being and address any health concerns promptly.

Implement infection control measures as needed.

Budget Management:

Assist in budget planning for activity-related expenses.

Make cost-effective choices while maintaining a high-quality experience.

Qualifications and Skills

High school diploma or equivalent (some facilities may require additional certifications or coursework).

Experience working with seniors, preferably in an assisted living or similar setting.

Creativity, empathy, and excellent communication skills.

Ability to organize and lead group activities.

Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activities for extended periods.

Lift and move lightweight equipment and supplies.
