Insectary Assistant - Starting Immediately
Employment type: Full-Time, Part-Time and Seasonal Hires
ARBICO Organics is seeking immediate staff to help grow beneficial insects used for biological pest control. These insects are used instead of chemicals – nature’s way of controlling pests.
Our insectary is called the bug farm because we are raising bugs much like the way farmers raise livestock!
Every day the bugs need to be fed, watered and harvested. If you would like to work in a casual environment, love nature and the out-of-doors, and want to work with a team of inspired bug enthusiasts, this job is for you.
The Job
You will be harvesting houseflies in all stages of fly production – eggs to maggots to pupal stages (Yes, you will be working with maggots!)
You will be growing and harvesting fly eliminators (fly parasites) including daily feeding and watering
You will be required to assist with clean up at the end of the day which includes washing large trays
You will also be required to assist with the communal garden and help to compost
And the most fun of all - you absolutely, positively will get dirty
The Requirements
Good level of fitness and health – growing insects involves a significant amount of manual labor
Positive attitude
Team player
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly
Must have reliable transportation (Insectary is located in Catalina, AZ)
High School Diploma or Four-year degree in a science related area preferred
