SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Maintains, Troubleshoots, and installs electronic components, Public Safety Mobile and Portable Radios, assemblies, and sub-systems. Determines and marks locations of underground utility lines. Assists contractors, customers, and staff with projects. Emergency Vehicle up-fitting/ troubleshooting experience, and/or installation of after- market vehicle electronics are preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Specific Summary
The Electronics Bench Technician position at the City of Tucson's Environmental and General Services Department programs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electronic components in public safety and emergency response vehicles, as well as various City vehicles as needed. This position also establishes locations of City of Tucson fiber optic and copper network lines and marks them in accordance with Arizona 811 requirements.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Electronics Technician Supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electronic components in public safety and emergency response vehicles including lights, sirens, speakers, vehicle internal communications, and radios. Performs annual maintenance on vehicle internal communications including portable and mobile radios, and programs and replaces radios as necessary.
Up-fits equipment in new City vehicles including Public Safety and Emergency vehicles with lights and sirens. Down-fits vehicle equipment by removing all internal communications, lights and sirens that are inoperable and damaged beyond repair.
Inspects and tests contractor work on up-fitting of public safety vehicles for quality of work; records performance, notes issues, and provides feedback. Builds prototype installations on new vehicles and creates instructions guides for reference.
Reviews Arizona 811 blue stake requests regarding City of Tucson fiber optic and copper cable lines by responding onsite to mark buried lines in accordance with Arizona 811 requirements. Informs requestor of blue stake results. Records and adjusts fiber optic and copper cable actual locations on the City of Tucson's digital maps.
Attends City of Tucson safety, department and unit meetings, and other required trainings. Enters labor charges and other related data in multiple enterprise resource planning systems. Optimizes productivity by maintaining the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles, managing stock levels of equipment and parts, keeping workspaces clean and organized, and inspecting the condition of tool inventory.
