The Pat Walker Health Center at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville campus is looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our fabulous team. The Pat Walker Health Center is an ambulatory care clinic and provides a wide range of medical care and services for students, faculty and staff. Hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
The Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the following duties: Operate centralized computer system and LIS in the laboratory, verify patient identity and test(s) to be performed prior to specimen collection, accurately collect and process appropriate patient samples for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, mainly, swabbing patients for PCR and rapid COVID testing. Track specimens per PWHC protocol (labeling, processing via practice management system, etc. Follow universal precautions as defined in the policy for the collection and disposal of specimens. Perform basic waived testing. Utilize good handwashing and wear protective equipment as appropriate. Maintain a clean work/lab draw area. Maintain medical equipment such as needles, test tubes, and blood vials. Dispose of sharps and bio-hazardous materials per protocol. Adhere to all HIPAA/confidentiality policies, procedures, and regulations. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. This is an hourly position.
