The Utilities Service Technician will diagnose and repair Utility Services Equipment (Portable HVAC/ Portable Power) by evaluating equipment to determine needed repairs, performing repairs while providing quote information for customers and managing time for efficiency.
Essential Job Duties (Must be able to fulfill essential job function in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.):
Repairs Utility Services Equipment (Portable HVAC/ Portable Power)
Program controllers including custom annunciation, email setup, and multi-gen applications.
Specify, program, and install remote monitoring systems as needed.
Perform start-up inspection, testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting on units, parallel systems, switchgear, and medium voltage applications.
Diagnose, program, and repair Eaton, ASCO, Thompson, Zenith, and Kohler automatic transfer switches.
Connect and trouble shoot auxiliary equipment i.e. day tank controllers, load centers, integral load banks, etc
Oversee temporary/Rental generator connection and full preventive maintenance at critical sites
Perform all necessary engine repairs on gensets <=2000kW
Apply relevant knowledge to other brands to facilitate repairs i.e. Cummins, Generac, Doosan, etc
Specify AVR upgrades and application for obsolete components
Disaster Response
Job planning relative to field repairs, generator or ATS removal/replacement
Respond to emergency calls at critical sites as needed independent of call rotation
Driving to customer location to evaluate job, evaluating equipment based on reported problem
Diagnosing malfunctioning equipment
Discussing evaluation with customer and provide estimated time for completion
Communicating with parts department to order or quote parts pricing to customer
Ordering necessary parts, replacing faulty parts, repairing unit to bring it to operational and safety standards
Repairs and maintains portable HVAC equipment
Implement portable HVAC best practices to maximize life of equipment.
Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and work safety
Maintains, operates, and repairs portable HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical distribution equipment.
Responds quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed
Operates company vehicle in a safe manner and follows prescribed routines to service locations in a timely manner.
Portable HVAC Technician will be responsible for diagnosis, maintenance, repairs, overhauls and operation of all electro/mechanical systems and equipment for commercial chiller and large tonnage portable HVAC systems. This includes HVAC and emergency equipment and controls, fan and blowers, this position is also responsible for troubleshooting of motors, fan coils, chillers, cooling towers, air conditioning etc. for water and reciprocation, air cooled chillers; helical screws and centrifugal equipment.

keeping Utility Services Project Coordinator involved in evaluation results
providing the customer with possible solutions to downtime
updating Utility Services Project Coordinator of progress of job on daily basis
Manages Time Efficiently
planning and organizing days workload based on service calls/parts availability utilizing time to minimize lost time
filling out or notifying Utility Services Project Coordinator of daily time sheets referencing each
job worked on, time spent with a detailed description of scope of work and accurate hours
Contributes to the Team Effort
assisting other technicians as needed or directed by supervisor
maintaining truck/van in safe and clean condition
Other Duties
Maintains Technical Knowledge
attending training schools
reviewing technical manuals
Performs Warranty Requirements
following manufacturer procedures when repairing a unit under warranty
completing necessary paperwork
tagging and returning all defective parts to/or notifying Utility Services Project Coordinator, to be
placed in bin
following local policy on parts warranty, tagging and returning to Part Manager
Any Other Duties as Assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Experience
Minimum 21 years of age
Clean driving record
General mechanical training/education and/or experience in related field
Strong ability to recognize significant mechanical defects and potential
Possessing complete set of tools including specialized tools needed to complete job at customer site
Possessing general knowledge of operating various equipment
Above average communication skills to include: two-way radios, phones, and e-mail
Strong organization skills
Ability to read and following instructions
Ability to accomplish duties with accuracy and timeliness
Ability to self-motivate which is required to stay on track, maintain organization, and make continuous progress
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
This position will be working in operating facilities and outdoors traveling to numerous customer locations. The employee will encounter varying weather conditions and temperatures. The normal auto hazards will apply.
This position will be frequently working on equipment with potential hazard. Appropriate safety equipment and practices are required.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Occasionally may be required to lift items weighing up to 100 pounds. Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
Position requires sitting, standing, walking, twisting, climbing and crawling
Position requires bending, stooping, kneeling or squatting handling/fingering and outward reaching on a daily basis.
Position requires driving van/truck to and from customer locations. Normal auto hazards apply.
Must be able to wear safety glasses and safety shoes
Must be medically capable of performing all aspects of the job with the maximum amount of safety. (Initial hire requires passing of pre-employment background check, physical abilities test, drug test and driving record).
