The Field Service Technician is responsible for overseeing and managing the maintenance program for mobile equipment, plants, and facilities. This position requires strong hands-on mechanical expertise with additional leadership experience to support and develop the maintenance team.

$105,000 – $150,000 (based on experience)

Shift:
Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM (16-hour shifts)
Flexible scheduling available depending on operational needs
Responsibilities
The Field Service Technician:
- Supports safety and environmental initiatives including employee safety engagement, regulatory compliance, and related training
- Develops, trains, and facilitates a team of equipment and plant maintenance personnel
- Coordinates teams to identify process improvements and to develop and document maintenance procedures
- Ensures compliance with the preventive maintenance program
- Cultivates relationships with steel mill personnel, vendors, and other management personnel
- Oversees inspections and diagnostics of mobile equipment, including diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Provides technical guidance for repairing, rebuilding, cleaning, and lubricating parts and components
- Utilizes computerized diagnostic systems (CAT ET, Cummins, etc.) to identify and resolve malfunctions
- Coordinates welding, cutting, and fabrication repairs as needed
- Acts as project manager for significant repairs, rebuilds, or installations
- Develops maintenance systems and processes to improve efficiency and minimize downtime
- Monitors the Maintenance Department’s budget and business plan
- Tracks KPIs, runs reports, analyzes data, and uses information for decision-making
- Provides reporting and record keeping as required
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned by manager
Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of ten years of mechanic experience in industrial or construction environments (equipment such as loaders, dozers, sennebogen/material handlers, etc.)
- At least one year of management or supervisory experience
- Expert knowledge of heavy equipment, diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, driveline components, steering mechanics, and suspensions
- Mechanical, welding, cutting, and fabricating skills
- Ability to train, support, and coordinate maintenance personnel
- Ability to understand and use financial data for decision-making
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
