Position SummaryThe Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of large mobile equipment used to support steel‑mill operations. This role plays a critical part in material movement, production support, and site safety. Operators work in a demanding industrial environment where strict safety compliance and operational precision are essential.Key ResponsibilitiesSafely operate heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, cranes, locomotives, material handlers, haul trucks, and other support equipmentSupport steel‑mill operations through material handling activities, including slag, scrap metal, raw materials, and finished by‑productsPerform pre‑shift and post‑shift equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concernsOperate equipment in compliance with company policies, site procedures, and all applicable safety regulationsMaintain awareness of surroundings while working in active mill areas with moving equipment, rail traffic, and high‑temperature processesCommunicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and maintenance personnelMaintain clean, organized work areas and equipment cabsComplete required production, inspection, and equipment operation documentationParticipate in safety meetings, job safety analyses (JSAs), and ongoing training programsAssist with basic equipment care and minor operational adjustments as trained
