This is an exciting opportunity within an early-phase R&D team currently involved in developing novel structural heart technologies. On this innovative team, you will be responsible for providing support to the R&D engineering group.Key Responsibilities:Assist R&D engineers with device development including rapidly prototyping designs, evaluating materials, troubleshooting failures, proposing and evaluating design improvements.
Perform complex prototyping work using drawings, diagrams, written and verbal instructions, protocols, or defined plans.
Prepare feasibility test units, samples, and/or chemical solutions; may include making material recommendations. May build prototypes for physician demonstration
Set up and operate specified manual equipment (especially lathe and mill) to create, refine, and repair parts, tooling, and/or devices including re-programming as needed to ensure continuity of machine operations in keeping with Good Manufacturing and Good Documentation Practices; verify tolerances are as per drawing specifications upon completion of work while applying knowledge of processes in the use of machines to ensure successful outcomes, as well as to devise process changes in collaboration with Engineering
Perform and document functional testing, troubleshooting of components, subassemblies, and materials.
Assist with the execution of R&D test protocols.
Operate a wide range of lab equipment including set-up, clean-up, break-down, and re-assembly.
Develop and execute tests for new and improved design concepts, processes, procedures, and test methods.
Collect and report test data using a laboratory notebook, word processing software, and spreadsheets.
Design or improve test fixtures and tooling.
Independently coordinate assignments, meet timelines, and perform job with little supervision.
Perform job with integrity, quality and attention to detail.
Qualifications:Required minimum experience is Associate’s Degree or equivalent technical degree/certificate plus 13+ years’ experience in R&D Lab and/or medical device experience or 15+ years of related experience required plus high school diploma.
Experience setting up and operating Lathe and Mill equipment required
Experience in an R&D lab in a medical device setting is a must.
Proven prototyping and testing experience is a must.
Experience with catheters is a plus.
Ability to perform complex troubleshooting
Ability to understand engineering drawings, diagrams, and protocols.
Good communication skills (written and oral).
Strong problem solving skills.
Hands-on ability.
Good documentation practices.
Strict attention to detail
Must be able to work in a team environment, including inter-department teams
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
