Looking for a non-medical live-in companion/caregiver to take care of my 76 year old father full time in his two-story East Santa Barbara condo. You would have your own bedroom and bathroom (furnished or unfurnished) within the condo, which is a 13 minute walk to the beach. A monthly stipend and days off per week would be negotiated.
He needs someone to drive him to 1-3 doctor appointments per month, church on Sunday, twice a week morning walks with his church walking group and other errands.
My dad has mild dementia and had a brain injury 4.5 years ago. He needs help with keeping with a daily schedule of meal times and bed time, medication management, minor healthy meal preparation, daily mail management, basic housekeeping, grocery shopping assistance, laundry, etc. He needs a minimal amount of help with incontinence. He can shower, groom and dress himself. He is fiercely independent but needs someone to be there to keep him safe, gently remind him about making good judgement calls and redirect his focus. He loves music, especially jazz. He loves playing the piano (in his living room) and going to concerts. He is a charming, personable, gentle man and has a great sense of humor. He likes to walk long distances, sometimes 5 or more miles per day, with a cane/walker. You wouldn't need to accompany him on every walk but you should be okay with walking with him once in a while to learn his regular routes and check how his walking is going. You would be connected to an app to track his location.
Experience working with dementia patients a plus, previous caregiver experience preferred and a personality match is most important. He has been living in an assisted living place for the past 6 months and is miserable because he just wants to be at home. I'm looking for someone who can provide superb companion care, look out for his well-being and give him the best opportunity to safely live at home. If you are even a little tech savvy to help him with his iPhone, that would be a plus. I need you to be my eyes and ears and keep me updated on his status and note any changes or concerns.
