OVERNIGHT Nurse/Caregiver Needed for Ventilator-Dependent Client

OVERNIGHT Nurse/Caregiver w/ Trach & Ventilator Experience Needed for Home Care Job (berkeley)

Hello, I am a 38-year-old UC Berkeley grad with a degenerative muscle condition who requires round-the-clock care. I live independently in Berkeley, despite using a ventilator full time, having a tracheostomy, and using a feeding tube to eat. I also use a computer to speak, as well as mouthing words to communicate. Experience with breathing equipment like tracheostomies and ventilators is required. I have a great team of caregivers, but am still looking to fill some shifts as I need 24/7 care. We are currently looking for someone to cover two 10-12 hour overnight shifts, to include at least one weekend night, plus backup as needed.

This is a great opportunity for a trustworthy, sharp, responsible and experienced caregiver/nurse eager for a challenge, who can help me with my equipment and routines in a home healthcare setting.

I am primarily looking for someone who is available to work 2 awake overnight shifts per week, and who can work backup overnight shifts when other caregivers are out. The position may grow to include more shifts.

JOB DUTIES:

–Maintaining my ventilator and suctioning secretions

–Observing my breathing and treating my symptoms as requested

–Using cough machine as needed

–Transferring me out of my wheelchair into bed using ceiling track lift

–Medication administration through feeding tube

–Therapeutic breathing treatment through nebulizer

–Cleaning my tracheostomy and PICC line

–Managing my feeding tube

–Range-of-motion stretches and repositioning

–Daily living tasks, like brushing my teeth and bathroom routine

–Keeping supplies and area clean and orderly

Extensive training is provided until we both feel comfortable in your ability to perform all parts of the job independently.

REQUIREMENTS:

– Respiratory, ventilator, tracheostomy care experience is highly desired

–Strong: Ability to lift 50+ pounds (for positioning me) as this is a physical job, though I do use a ceiling track "hoyer" lift

–Fluent English

–Commitment to working at least one year

–Solid references from former employers

–Lip-reading experience preferred

–Job requires some reaching, so if you're shorter than 5'4", some tasks may be physically difficult

–Valid drivers license preferred, but not required

–Can reliably commit to a consistent schedule

–Willingness and flexibility to back up shifts when other caregivers are out

SCHEDULE:

Two overnight shifts per week, around 9pm- 9am or 11pm-9am to start, with flexibility to back up other nights.

PAY:

$30- $38/hr, depending on relevant experience and credentials. I pay overtime for shifts over 9 hours, sick pay, PTO, bonuses, and give periodic raises. Health insurance may be provided.

LOCATION:

I live 3 blocks from the Downtown Berkeley BART in my own home with my partner and dog. Free off-street parking is available.
