Job Title: Maintenance Irrigation Technician

Department: Landscaping/Maintenance

Reports To: Irrigation Supervisor/Facility Manager

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution for landscaping. The technician monitors, troubleshoots, and fixes irrigation components to maintain optimal performance, conserve water, and ensure plant health.

Key Responsibilities:

System Installation and Repair:

Install new irrigation systems, including sprinklers, drip lines, valves, timers, and other related equipment.

Diagnose and repair irrigation systems, including replacing broken parts, repairing leaks, and ensuring proper function.

Maintenance and Inspection:

Perform routine inspections of irrigation systems to ensure all components are operating correctly.

Adjust and set irrigation schedules on control timers based on seasonal needs and water conservation goals.

Identify and address water flow issues such as leaks, clogs, or blockages.

Test irrigation systems regularly to verify efficiency and ensure water conservation.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:

Troubleshoot electrical issues related to irrigation controllers, solenoid valves, and wiring.

Identify landscape conditions that affect irrigation systems, such as soil type, slope, and weather conditions.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of all service, repairs, and installations.

Provide detailed reports on system issues and resolutions.

Safety and Compliance:

Follow safety protocols when operating machinery and handling irrigation components.

Ensure compliance with local water conservation regulations and guidelines.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in irrigation system installation and maintenance.

Experience with both residential and commercial irrigation systems preferred.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of irrigation system components (valves, pumps, timers, etc.).

Ability to read and interpret irrigation blueprints and schematics.

Competency in plumbing and electrical troubleshooting.

Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Familiarity with local water conservation guidelines and irrigation regulations.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Able to perform tasks that require frequent standing, bending, and kneeling.

Certifications (Preferred):

Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT)

Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA)

Backflow Prevention Certification

Additional Requirements:

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Strong communication skills.
