Vineyard Mechanic

Paul Hobbs Winery, a grower and producer of luxury Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay, seeks a motivated and high-achieving Vineyard Mechanic to join our dynamic Vineyard team. The Senior Vineyard Mechanic performs repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance on all company-held vehicles and vineyard equipment. This position is responsible for ensuring that all such equipment is maintained in good working order and is safe to operate at all times and that proper maintenance schedules and records are kept according to company standards.

Examples of responsibilities:

Safely perform necessary and appropriate repairs and maintenance to all vineyard equipment (i.e., tractors, atv’s, implements, tools, etc.), winery/grounds equipment, and company vehicles as necessary.

Fabricate and/or retrofit equipment and infrastructure as needed.

Maintain detailed records of repairs and maintenance.

Directs overall repairs and maintenance schedule and prioritize projects that coincide with the vineyard team’s needs.

Purchase vineyard equipment, parts, and other supplies and submit invoices/receipts.

Ensure that operational and material costs of vineyard repairs and maintenance is competitive with industry standards.

Maintain (shop) in clean and organized condition.

Transfer farm equipment (i.e., tractors, implements) between vineyards.

Haul macro bins and equipment during harvest within set deadlines.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Specific qualifications & skills:

1. Maintenance knowledge: Proven track record of being able to make repairs on all farm equipment.

2. Communication: Able to communicate effectively to get what they need to properly repair and get equipment repaired efficiently and cost effectively. Bilingual (Spanish & English) a plus.

3. Time management: Capable of making repairs quickly and safely to get the machinery back into operations to allow work to continue as planned.

4. Attitude: Cheerful, positive, considerate, creative, competitive, professional demeanor.

5. Success drive: Anticipates problems, prepares, adapts, intuitive, resilient, and relentless.

Basic job requirements:

1. Minimum 5 years of work experience repairing and maintaining farm equipment.

2. Strong knowledge of vineyard mechanical equipment, tools, safety requirements, welding, grinding, metal fabrication, etc.

3. Spanish and English speaking preferred, plus reading and writing comprehension.

4. Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs., or a 9L case of wine.

5. Able to work in adverse conditions: hot/cold weather, rain, mud, soft soil, dust, etc.

6. Able to sit and/or walk and stand for most of the day: twist, bend, crouch, extend and have full range of motion in all varieties of physical movement.

7. Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (or non-commercial class A) preferred.

8. Must pass pre-employment physical and background check.
