The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) is a prominent, national community of more than 1,400 organizations whose mission is to significantly increase girls’ and women’s participation in computing. NCWIT materials create awareness about the current state of affairs for technical girls and women, and key barriers to their participation in technology; increase knowledge about research-based practices for addressing these barriers; and, motivate individuals and organizations to take action. Thus, materials must be distinct and clearly portray goals, progress, and outcomes of the NCWIT mission.
The NCWIT Communications Team is searching for an experienced graphic designer who has excellent problem-solving skills and the creative capacity to design for several mediums (web, social media, and print) and audiences (K-12, higher education, and corporate). The individual will be responsible for designing a wide range of organizational collateral, including (but not limited to) e-newsletters, research-based resources, presentation assets, and marketing assets in the form of social media tiles, flyers, and more.
Responsibilities include:
Use expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications to create professional print layouts from text files, stock photography, and original illustrations.
Use expert knowledge of HTML and layout principles to build and design e-newsletter communications and webpages
Exercise a depth of understanding about visual hierarchy to efficiently design graphics to scale and legibility for social media.
Adhere to established style guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
bachelor’s degree in fine arts, graphic design, or other related field
a minimum of two years of professional experience as a Designer, Creative Director, or other graphic design position
skilled with MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and Dreamweaver)
proficient in HTML
ability to work efficiently and effectively within tight time constraints
ability to work with individuals with various educational and professional backgrounds including but not limited to students, educators, industry executives, website developers, and members of the press
proficiency with working offsite and independently while meeting deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
familiarity with emailing services, such as MailChimp
familiarity with crafting social media content
an interest and knowledge about the underrepresentation of historically marginalized identities in technological innovation, as identified in mainstream media and social science research
experience in working with a non-profit
Time Commitment and Pay:
This position includes up to 30 hours/week and the hourly rate begins at $30/hour depending on skills and experience.
