This is a term-limited position with an anticipated end date of a year from the start date. This is a fully benefited position. This opportunity is only for former or current military members. Are you a current or former member of the military, looking for an opportunity to develop your career in Cybersecurity? As our new Cyber Security Apprentice, you will gain hands-on, real-world experience as part of the security administration team responsible for managing agency and data center firewalls, web filtering, endpoint security systems, VPN/remote access, and more. You will be responsible for the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of our enterprise security infrastructure, as well as completion of security reports and audit responses. You will ensure state compliance with all applicable regulations and contribute to the development of security policies, guidelines, best practices, strategies, and other work critical to the continued success of OIT. Some of your important responsibilities will include:
Collaborate on the implementation and management of various security systems, including firewalls, VPNs, and other network security devices.
Support, monitor, and implement necessary updates to state enterprise endpoint security software and services.
ITS documentation, including department policies and procedures, web content, and ITS alerts.
Identify security weaknesses and vulnerabilities in state applications and systems.
Discover application and system weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
Research new threats and communicate with OIS and Security Operations for prevention and detection.

The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. While most salary offers are made within the posted range, occasionally an offer is made below or above the posted range based upon this salary analysis. This is a Skills-based Job Announcement. The required minimum qualifications and/oreducation (if substituting for the proven experience, knowledge, and skills), are as follows: Minimum Qualifications:
Current or previous military experience.
A minimum of two years of professional work experience in the IT Security field for Cyber Security Apprentice II.
Substitutions:
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle many tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines.
Excellent relationship management and liaison skills, strong orientation toward collaboration and communication, and ability to earn trust and respect from a challenging customer base.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate succinctly and to specific audiences including the ability to draft clear and concise employee and customer communication and executive summaries.
Conditions of Employment:OIT candidates and employees must comply with any screening procedures in place at state entity locations where they might be required to perform work.A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process. Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety will also require a pre-employment drug test. This position may require travel within the specified geographic area, and to locations across the state as needed. This position may require on-call duties as needed by the position. All remote work must be performed in Colorado.
