The Hartford’s Group Benefits IT Team is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Scrum Master who is responsible for leading a team to successfully drive the transformation of our application landscape. You will have an opportunity to help educate and guide the team in the optimal usage of Agile best practices (Lean-Agile, Scrum, or Kanban) and ensure that the agreed to Lean-Agile process is being followed towards achieving the business outcomes. You will be actively involved with removing impediments and fostering an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous delivery and relentless focus towards people, process, and technology improvements.This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office location (Add locations) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures team adheres to Agile principles and best practices (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).

Understands product planning in an inspect and adapt environment, and ensures the Product Owner knows how to arrange the Product Backlog to maximize value

Provides information regarding team health: people, process, progress and overall satisfaction to Technology and Business Leaders

Coaches the team members to practice effective Agile practices

Removes impediments for the team and escalates appropriately

Insulates Scrum Team from distractions or disruption

Coaches the Product Owner, Development Team, Technology and Business Leaders on Agile values, principles, and best practices

Assess the maturity of the team and coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization

Identifies and resolves gaps in skills, processes, and resources

Build a trust and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.

Provide all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example

Promote the team to think through modern development practices like DevOps, security practices, SRE principles

QUALIFICATIONS:

3+ years of work experience in IT development as a Scrum Master

First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I)

Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency

Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Agile approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)

Must be a dynamic and self-starting individual who is able to work independently or as part of a team with minimal guidance and direction

Must be able to effectively prioritize and assign work in order to meet deadlines

Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games is a plus

Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship, now and in the future.

CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
