Reports to: Senior Director, Human ResourcesJOB PURPOSE: The Security Guard will provide for the safety of students, faculty, staff, visitors and property through enforcement of policies and procedures. This person will oversee the enforcement of emergency plans, as well as be the first point of contact for visitors into the building.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Patrol the grounds perimeter and building to provide visible deterrent to unwanted activities.
Greet and assist staff, students and visitors.
Maintain building and room security.
Observe, accurately report and follow up on incidents committed, report on same.
Respond to fire, burglary, hold up alarms, and disturbance calls
Assists management with safety drills and audits
Make sound decisions during emergency situations based on OPPs policies and procedures
Unlock/lock buildings and rooms when facilities personnel are not available.
Respond to requests for information and assistance in a manner honors confidentiality

- One to three years of work experience in security services or law enforcement. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
- Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent field preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification
- CT state drivers license
- Must hold a valid State of Connecticut Guard Card
- Ability to work independently, and confront others in a professional and polite manner
- Physically capable to run and defend self or others
- Must be able to carry/drag heavy objects
- Must act quickly and accurately
- Must use resources to find creative solutions to problems
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
