English Conversation Tutors (Yale / East Rock) — $25–30/hr or $500–$600/mo
About the initiative
We’re launching a student-led initiative to help international Yale students (mostly 20–27) sound natural in everyday English, make friends more easily, and express their personalities. To support this, we are hiring English Conversation Tutors. The goal is for participants to speak confidently with peers—and ideally even wittily—in real-life settings.
Job Description:
Correct grammar as participants speak and suggest more natural phrasing.
Help refine word choice (concise, idiomatic, context-appropriate).
Watch short clips/shows/news/social media together to mine new vocabulary, idioms, and cultural references (pause → explain → quick practice).
Occasional real-life practice: ordering at cafés, buying/returning items, small talk at events, campus errands, etc.
Ability to simulate a little role-play when helpful (e.g., “meeting new classmates,” “your friend expressing concerns”, in“group hangout,” “restaurant interaction”)—simple, short demos of what a good conversation could sound like if participant asks.
Note: This should be straightforward for native speakers and typically requires minimal prep—show up ready to chat and guide.
Schedule & pay
Target 5 hours/week in 1-hour sessions to keep near-daily practice so progress is obvious.
$25–$30/hr, or flat $500–$600/month (20 hrs/month).
We are Flexible: Some weeks 3–4 hours (or less) is totally fine if you’re busy—hours can scale up/down.
The only hard ask is punctuality and reliability (no no-shows; give a quick heads-up if rescheduling).

Polite, patient, empathetic, easygoing; a sense of humor is a plus.
