Residential Camp Nurse On the Connecticut Shoreline

Dates 7/7-8/11 1 week blocks, preference given for longer time commitment

Job Description:

The camp nurse collaborates care with the Medical Director, Health Center Director and other pertinent camp staff to provide health care to the campers and staff. The camp nurse is responsible for dispensing medications, caring for ill campers and staff, administering first aid, responding to medical emergencies, and management of chronic or recurring health issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. A temporary license is acceptable.

• Current provider BLS, Malpractice insurance recommended.

• Competent with EMR, Campminder preferred.

• Physical strength to move and lift patients, medical equipment, etc. (at least 50 lbs.)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow the steps of the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, and provide individualized health care for all campers and staff as per camp standing orders using evidenced-based practice.

• Chart in computerized record keeping via Campminder EMR and EMAR.

• Educate counselors and appropriate staff of potential and actual camper/staff health problems and required camper/staff medications.

• Accept delivery, properly store, and secure camper and staff medications to prepare and dispense medication to campers as per physicians’ instructions and parents’ consent with respect to camp policy and state of Connecticut Youth Camp Regulations

• Communicate with parents regarding campers’ medication, treatments and health situations as they arise; inform Health Center Director of any illness requiring a doctor’s visit, or discharge from camp.

• take inventory of supplies and equipment and suggest orders to Health Center Director.

JOB OVERVIEW

• Contracts are signed for week blocks, with at least 1 day off per week worked.

• Pay Is competitive and based on experience (pediatric and camp preferred).

• Coordinate care within a team of 3 RNs and 2 support staff during Health Center Hours and rotating on-call overnight shits.

• Residing on campus in air-conditioned and recently renovated Health Center Nurses Quarters.

Due to the variety of situations that may arise, other duties may be added or reassigned as necessary.

Health Center Support Staff On the Connecticut Shoreline

Compensation is based on experience and starts at 500/week

Job Description:

The Health Center Support Staff collaborates care with the Health Center Nurses and other pertinent camp staff to support the Nurses ability to care for the campers and staff. We are searching for a responsible, friendly, nurturing team member.

This is a support position, and no medical background is required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 21 years or older with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

• Experience working with children in a structured setting. Camp experience preferred.

• Thrives in fast-paced team setting while taking initiative.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Physical strength to move and lift patients, medical equipment, etc. (at least 50 lbs.)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES- All of this is done under the supervision and guidance of an RN

• Managing and facilitating the overall order of the Health Center along with Nursing Team, such as but not limited to: turning over overnight rooms, collecting camper supplies during admission to Health Center, sanitizing counters, ensuring Health Center laundry is done, changing trash as needed when Housekeeping is not available.

• Stocking freeze pops, ice, and making ice bags and Gatorade.

• Fetching meals form mess hall for inpatient campers and staff.

• Act as first contact person for campers during sick call, making sure each camper and or counselor sign in before being seen by the nurse.

• Transport campers to pediatrician's office, urgent care, and follow the ambulance to a hospital in an emergency to serve as a ride back to camp from the hospital. Support staff also act as camper guardian in these situations and will facilitate communication to parents during the course of an urgent or emergent situation. All of this is done under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse.

• Serve as an advocate for campers who need tlc for minor emotional needs.

• Office duties: make copies, scan, send fax, and communicate with local facilities to set up appointments.

• Communicate with parents to take phone messages for nursing staff.

• Take inventory of supplies and equipment and suggest orders to Health Center Director.
