Regional Volunteer Coordinator & Site Manager

OverviewLocation/Department: Divisional Headquarters, Programs Department, Service Unit Administration, Winsted Service Unit (Winsted, Connecticut) Status: Non-exempt, Full-time Hours Per Week: 35 Scope & Purpose of Position: Expand services in Northwest Connecticut through recruitment and training of a volunteer base; develop and oversee daily operations of the Social Service Center in Winsted, CT; raise awareness of The Salvation Army through public speaking and community engagement activities; and identify local volunteers, financial, and in-kind resources to support local services. Responsibilities

Disseminate information on Camp CONNRI and CONNRI Lodge, work with volunteers to promote and present youth and senior camp program offerings to the community, and ensure complete and timely submission of applicant paperwork to Divisional Headquarters.

Ensure services are consistent with The Salvation Army policies and proper assistance documentation is available for review upon request.

Ensure the timely collection and accuracy of quarterly statistical reports from local units.

Facilitate communication between volunteers and local Corps Officers, including cooperative kettle campaigns, casework service coordination, and Coordinating Council attendance.

Facilitate local fundraising efforts, including the annual kettle campaign, United Way application, reporting requirements, EFSP, etc.

Meet with potential clients to assess needs and determine eligibility and plan of action/response.

Monitor unit expenditures to ensure budgetary compliance.

Prepare and review regular reimbursement requests for the Social Service Center in Winsted and other local units of responsibility.

Recruit, train, and maintain volunteer relationships; provide necessary support in each town/unit of responsibility; maintain regular communication with volunteers; provide information on organizational vision and priorities, policy updates, budgetary issues, etc.

Support municipal emergency response efforts in cooperation with the Divisional Secretary for Business Administration and the Divisional EDS Coordinator; ensure each community has appropriate Emergency and Disaster Service cooperative relationships to provide Salvation Army outreach, as requested.

Work with the supervisor to create annual unit budgets and budget revisions.

Work with the Marketing and Public Relations Manager to create and coordinate public relations efforts, events, special campaigns, and local fundraising projects within assigned units.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in social services or a related field is preferred.

A minimum of two years of work experience in social services, food pantry work, casework, or a related field is required.

Minimum of three years working with volunteers, volunteer development, or equivalent managerial experience.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to organize responsibilities and function independently.

Ability to maintain ethical conduct in accordance with organizational policy and conduct business in a manner consistent with the organization's mission, values, and policies.

Ability to work without close supervision on assigned duties and be willing to seek and accept supervision as needed.

Demonstrate excellent ability to engage with diverse populations and sensitivity to issues related to poverty and the barriers faced by low-income people.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathetic listening.

Excellent time management skills are required.

Knowledge of community resources.

Must have a high energy level, solid work ethic, and the ability to respond to changing conditions.

Must work well in a team atmosphere.

Unquestioned confidentiality with sensitive financial and personal information.

Valid CT Driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain driving privileges per Salvation Army insurance standards.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and the Internet.
