Job Description:The Non-Clinical Data Abstractor performs accurate and timely abstraction, auditing, and monitoring of data from health information records (e.g., regulatory and accreditation required registries, Intermountain approved databases supporting clinical program, clinical services, operational lane registries). The incumbent supports quality improvement activities related to database or registry outputs through meeting attendance.ScopeThe incumbent reports to the Data Abstraction Supervisor. The incumbent performs accurate and timely abstraction, auditing, and monitoring of clinical data from health information records (e.g., regulatory and accreditation required registries, Intermountain clinical program, clinical service, operational lane registries). The incumbent assists with quality improvement activities related to database or registry outputs.Job EssentialsMeets database standards and Intermountain requirements based on the registry specifications. Registries require different elements for abstractions (e.g., clinical, ICD codes, scale content, demographics) and abstractor abstracts specifically to the requirements.Utilizes expertise to review health records and accurately abstract relevant data. Verifies, enters, and submits data to various data registries according to specified deadlines.Maintains integrity of assigned database through partnership with Clinical Programs and Services.Completes data validation processes and cleanup in an accurate and timely manner. Updates and corrects data and assists with submission data cleanup.Complies with Intermountain security standards and HIPAA.Files and organizes documentation related to abstracted charts (e.g., digital files, scanning, storage of paper forms) according to Intermountain health information policy.Maintains competency with database requirements and database changes through internal and external database provider information. Registries will have different course completion and time requirements as defined by the registry or the Intermountain registry owner, which must be met.Works with database owner, data manager, and information services for testing of upgrades.Assists in identification of clinical, financial, and risk issues and escalates them to the supervisor as appropriate.Tests and troubleshoots data entry software.Identifies opportunities for improvement (OFI).Seeks opportunities to enhance skills and abilities through education and training.Obtains and maintains certifications pertinent to applicable database(s).Provides feedback and OFI's for clinical teams concerning health record documentation and assists with notification of missing documentation.Participates in peer to peer review process.Minimum Qualifications:Three years of healthcare work experience.

Database registry certification may be required depending on specialty.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in trauma registryHas CAISS or CSTR certificationExperience in either Epic or CernerExperience in ICD10 coding guidelinesAssociate degreePhysical Requirements:Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information.
