Sterling Martin Associates is a premier executive recruiting firm specializing in national-level searches. We are looking for a part-time Director of Finance and Accounting to join our team. This is a remote position with flexible hours, ideal for a seasoned financial professional with experience in professional services. This position requires routine in-person meetings in the DMV, probably 3-4 times per month with SMA’s CEO.

Position Summary

The Director of Finance and Accounting will play a critical role in managing Sterling Martin Associates’ financial health, with a focus on metrics-driven performance measurement and strategic financial insights. This role requires strong financial acumen, with a knack for creating and analyzing financial dashboards. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in accounting and finance within a professional services setting, such as recruiting, consulting or legal firms.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and ensure accuracy through bank reconciliations.

Financial Performance Tracking: Develop, implement, and manage financial dashboards to monitor and report on organizational performance.

Budgeting and Forecasting: Prepare annual budgets and forecasts, monitor performance against these benchmarks, and report insights to leadership.

Cash Flow Management: Oversee and project cash flow to ensure the firm meets its financial obligations and maintains appropriate reserves.

Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies; prepare necessary documents for regulatory, tax, and audit purposes.

Risk Management: Identify and assess financial risks, providing recommendations to mitigate potential issues.

Process Improvement: Review and refine accounting processes (e.g., accounts payable/receivable, payroll) to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Project Financial Analysis: Provide project-based financial analysis to support data-driven decision-making for specific initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation (preferred).

Proven experience in a professional services firm, such as recruiting, consulting or legal.

Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and financial dashboard management.

Excellent analytical skills with a metrics-driven approach to financial management.

Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate financial insights effectively.

Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with the CEO and team.

Additional Information

This is a part-time, remote role with flexible hours. DMV location preferred.

The candidate should be available for routine in-person meetings with the CEO 3-4 times per month.
