The EL/ ESOL Services Assistant Director provides leadership, supervision, guidance, and support for English Language Learners (ELL) Program. Guided by the school instructional framework and Bridges Public Charter School mission, will provide instructional leadership support to teachers and staff. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment and initiative. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility. The EL / ESOL Services Assistant Director will be willing to learn about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in order to provide classroom support, coaching, and in-service workshops that merge best practices in elementary math with UDL. The EL / ESOL Services Assistant Director is also a member of the school-wide testing team overseeing the various assessments in which our EL / ESOL students participate. The position develops and implements programs within organizational policies; reports major activities to senior level administrators through conferences and reports. This is a 12 month position.

As an EL / ESOL Services Assistant Director you will be responsible for…

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Provides schoolwide leadership for PK-5 ELL instructional, curricular, and professional development initiatives.

Direct a schoolwide ELL program to ensure all ELL students are supported.

Oversees data collection and analysis for planning, scheduling, and leads in the use of language proficiency data with state level assessment and achievement data to improve the overall achievement of ELL students.

Implements a comprehensive program for increasing English language acquisition and academic achievement for all English Language Learners.

Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations relating to ELL students.

Collaborates with members of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to integrate effective language acquisition instruction into all classrooms.

Coordinate and administer required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement and progress monitoring to determine when students exit the program.

Develop Language acquisition support plans for all ELL students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans.

Facilitate instruction based on the Universal Design for Learning Framework. Demonstrate (model) mathematical strategies in classrooms and provide feedback.

Work with classroom teachers to universally design instruction and align instructional design to Common Core Standards.

Support students instructionally in the classroom or pull out setting.

Provides support and assistance to all classroom teachers in improving instructional practices through the full implementation of the UDL framework.

Develop appropriate curriculum to help ELL students acquire the English language.

Possesses a sense of vision and projects that sense, involves others in accomplishing goals and solving problems, and interacts with diverse groups successfully.

Demonstrates success incorporating culturally-competent strategies and utilizing culturally-responsive communication and engagement strategies with all members of the school community.

Gather and report data for reporting requirements and other required reports (to the State, Dept of Education, census, grant applications, annual report, etc.).

Maintain a collection of professional and reading/learning materials related to EL / ESOL instruction, Universal Design for Learning, and which reflect current research.

Establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the program.

Facilitate workshops for parents.

Engage parents and families in their student’s learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community.

Supervises staff and completes evaluation of certified staff and program effectiveness.

Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Adhering to the 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. work day

Regularly attends work and adheres to all attendance policies.

Be on time for classes, duties, team meetings and professional development activities. Communicate about and plan for absences in advance with teaching teams and the Principal.

Participate in weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings.

Contribute to PLC sessions by being prepared to share data, ideas, student work, materials, feedback, facilitating sessions and/or discussions.

Participate in a Summer Professional Development. Summer Professional Development will be two weeks in August before students return.

Seek out additional opportunities for professional development that will lead to achieving personal and school-wide professional development goals.

Reading provided school information and adhering to all deadlines.

Respond to all emails within 24 hours or the next business day.

Other professional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will:

Must possess a Master’s Degree.

Fluency in both spoken and written Spanish is required.

ESL/ELL Certification Preferred.

Knowledge of ELL regulations.

3-5 years administrative/supervisory experience.

3-5 years teaching experience.

Proficiency using Google Documents

Citizenship, residency or work visa in the United States required.

Demonstrate strong skills in partnering with families.

Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, families, and community members.

Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.

Have a track record of being a team player and community minded.

Be committed to their own learning.

Have excellent time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

Have a passion for urban public schools.

The ideal candidate has knowledge and experience teaching in an elementary school ESL program; exhibits superior organizational and communication skills; is compassionate; can provide effective collaborative and open-minded leadership; and is knowledgeable about recent research in pedagogy in the field of second language acquisition and ELL education.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary is based on educational level, certification(s), and years of experience. The successful candidate will be contracted yearly. Employment will be renewed according to evaluations and staff interest.
