Position Summary:
Responsible for monitoring and operations of uplink broadcast services and facilities. This includes verifying proper audio and data channel configuration and content for all music, talk and sports channels on all platforms as well as internal and external data services which are broadcast to receivers. Follow standard operating procedures, open incident tickets, and escalate as necessary for all issues. Work with various stakeholders to correcting or reestablish services to minimize subscriber issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operates the 24x7 Washington, DC satellite earth station including the satellite RF uplink, baseband multiplexors, encryption devices, and serial/IP based inputs
  • Responsible for the maintenance and reliable operation of computer systems and network connections of the Uplink Distribution System and associated equipment
  • Monitors the system to correct or escalate any security, usability or subscriber impacting issues
  • Monitor System health using preexisting management tools and respond to incidents as they arise
  • Interfaces with Enterprise Control Center Supervisors, Broadcast Operations Controllers, IP Network Operations Center, SXM Systems Engineering and Satellite controller staff
  • Acts as Tier 1 support staff to triage all system anomalies
  • Monitors the disaster recovery systems to ensure readiness
  • Performs incident management and reporting

Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least one year of experience in one or more of the following areas: IP communications network operations; RF transmission system operations; Systems Administration, or a combination thereof
  • Experience in RF systems operations and anomaly resolution.
  • Experience with Tier 1 operations and escalation procedures
  • Strong knowledge of Linux environment and networking software, hardware, networking protocols and operational requirements and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and follow procedures documented for normal operations
  • Able to support a 24-hour/7-day facility; able to work holidays, weekends, and occasional overtime.

Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Knowledge of remote applications technologies used to support remote workers (Zoom, Slack, MS Teams, etc)
