Job Details
The Aerial Maps team is responsible for the technical acquisition of aerial imagery and processing it into map data to fuel some of the most exciting tech and logistics companies. Infrastructure aside, we are responsible for the end to end remote sensing stack. This includes autonomous mission planning, orthomosaic map generation (2.5D or 3D reconstruction), and computer vision & machine learning.
We are looking for a strong engineer to own the architecture and technical vision for this team. The ideal candidate has a rich understanding of remote sensing and 3D reconstruction, and can work agiley to make smart decisions on build vs. buy and investment into R&D. This candidate should also have experience developing these pipelines while being integrated into a production environment, as well as understand how this data is consumed downstream so it can be optimized accordingly.
Responsibilities: Architecting, building, and researching ortho map pipelines. Working closely with the platform team to responsibly integrate ongoing research into a live production environment. Operate in an agile data-driven environment where you are constantly measuring and experimenting to improve pipelines and introduce new features. Help build out a larger aerial maps team, define a team vision and help guide the hiring strategy and development road map.
Requirements: Demonstrated experience with 2.5D or 3D reconstruction; structure from motion (SfM) Experience building processing software for geospatial data Experience acting in a technical leadership or architecture design capacity Strong math and analytical skills
Bonus Points: Experience with core AWS technologies Familiarity with aerospace physics Familiarity with optics Experience working with Docker, ECS, and Infrastructure as code (e.g., terraform) Enjoys leading and mentoring engineers to think about system life cycles, edge cases, and failure modes.
