Our family is seeking a former social worker, nurse, or someone with similar experience to assist a couple in their 80s with household management day to day needs. We seek a caring, proactive, and patient individual to be a companion to and help care for two elderly adults. They are still independent but need support due to dementia and declining eyesight. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys engaging with older adults in activities and is good at problem-solving.
Schedule:
- part-time to start, but hours could increase over time
- this role in not live-in, but does include some overnights as well as some daytime hours
- our aim is to develop a regular consistent schedule that we can both plan around
Responsibilities:
- Provide engaging companionship and support daily routines
- Foster a positive, stimulating, and safe environment
- Provide or help schedule transportation
- Assist with sticking to a routine
- Help with technology
- Offer medication reminders to ensure adherence
- Assist with basic wound care as needed
- Help with showering and personal hygiene as necessary
- Provide assistance with hearing aids
- Observe and report any health or behavioral changes
Qualifications:
- Experience with dementia
- Nursing background and/or caregiving experience
- Patience, reliability, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills
