Temporary Part-time Caregiver

Vacancy expired!

I’m seeking a temporary caregiver for my mother and myself. You will be paid $20 per hour. The shifts are:

1. Every week: 4 PM to 12:30 AM on Sunday and 6:30 PM to 12:30 AM on Wednesday; AND

2. Every other week: 6:30 PM to 12:30 AM on Thursday and Friday; AND

3. Every other week: 10:30 AM-6:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

The every other week schedule will be May 9th to May 12, May 23rd to 26th, and so forth. The position will remain listed until it's filled, so if you are reading this ad, go ahead and apply.

I am a lifelong disabled woman who uses a wheelchair and has a speech disability, a tracheotomy, and a feeding tube. I cannot physically care for myself, but I do know every detail of my care. You do not need experience caring for disabled people in order to work for me. My other caregivers will train you from scratch, just as they were trained from scratch. I have found that my on-the-job training method produces better caregivers than any home health agency or certification program. If you happen to have work experience as a caregiver, it’s a plus, but you still must have my paid on-the-job training.

I live with my parents, age 80. My mother has Parkinson’s Disease and memory loss. You will need to help her, too, as part of the job.

You should be relatively physically fit and be able to pick up a typical three-year-old child. You need good hearing and a very good command of English. Otherwise, you won’t be able to understand my speech, which is like a whisper unless I’m connected to my overnight ventilator. You need a driver’s license and your own car. I will prefer candidates who live within a 30-minute drive of Alexandria, VA.

I am at higher risk for a poor outcome if I catch COVID or other respiratory viruses. I may, therefore, ask caregivers to wear masks that I provide if you or your household member is sick. I will ask you to self-administer a COVID test, which I will provide.

To apply, please answer the following.

1. What is your name, phone number, and ZIP code?

2. Do you have other employment obligations and, if so, what is your work schedule?

3. Do you have personal obligations that could unexpectedly cause you to miss work unexpectedly? In an emergency, you may bring a child to work.

4. What experience do you have caring for others either with or without pay?

5. What types of jobs have you held that didn’t involve caring for others?

6. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
