Payroll & Benefits Specialist – Temp-to-Hire
Want to work with an organization that has a passion for politics, diversity and women’s reproductive rights? And do you have at least 2 years of experience processing payroll and administering benefit plans? Our client, a nonprofit organization in Washington, DC is looking for a Temp-to-Hire Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their HR and Operations Team. This position is based in downtown Washington, DC and is on a hybrid schedule with 3 days per week working in the office and 2 days working remotely.
Payroll duties will include processing their semi-monthly payroll processing; administering benefit enrollment elections; working with their benefit plan providers; and communicating important payroll and benefits notifications to their staff. Will also manage the annual open enrollment process; ensure that the organization is compliant with all state and federal laws and regulations; and ensure that state tax (and other municipalities) requirements are met with their payroll provider.
On the HR side, this person will also conduct new hire orientations and coordinate staff onboarding and offboarding processes; assist with the recruiting process; assist with the annual performance review process; and manage union dues administration.
The ideal candidate must have at least 2 years of relevant experience including processing payroll and administering benefit plans. Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws is also needed. Experience using HRIS systems is required, and Paylocity HRIS is a plus. A PHR or SHRM-CP certification is also a big plus!
