The Madeira School is seeking a Stable Hand to join its Riding Department. The facility, located in McLean, VA, supports a year-round comprehensive riding program, including approximately 30 school owned and boarder horses. Schedule: Sundays: 5:00 am - 1:00 pm. Note: Housing is NOT provided.
Responsibilities include: turning horses out, bringing horses in; feeding hay and grain; maintaining clean and plentiful water sources; cleaning stalls; changing blankets according to temperature; assisting in basic horse health care, both routine and exceptional (e.g., identifying likenesses, colic, tying up, basic first aid); assisting in general care of horses, including grooming, clipping, mane pulling and daily hoof care; keep stables tidy and organized; assists in other stable and barn chores as needed, including sweeping, raking, picking stalls.
Requirements: recognize, assess, treat and monitor a variety of equine injuries; reliable, team player who is able to communicate well; safety-oriented individual; authorized to work in the United States for any employer; physical requirements: several hours of standing, kneeling, bending, climbing stairs, climbing ladders & walking; lifting and carrying 50 pounds, push/pull animals of 900 pounds or more; exposure to hot/cold, wet/humid weather conditions.
