Field Director

Reports to: Director, Advocacy and Action Department
Supervises: Sr. Field Organizer, Field Organizer
Travel: up to 75%
Summary: This position will be part of the Advocacy and Action Team, a department working to build power, take action, and create change. Our work is aligned under three pillars: Queering Democracy, Queering Equity and Queering Faith. In close coordination with Advocacy and Action leaders and staff and other Task Force staff, The Field Director manages and directs the Task Force's efforts to mobilize activists and supporters to participate in political and public education campaigns that promote equity for LGBTQ people. This includes developing organizing strategies and tactics that align with our overall legislative and electoral strategy, and to build political power.
Responsibilities:
The Field Director:
Leads the creation and implementation of a comprehensive field plan to meet our defined strategic goals and turn those goals into tactics, timelines and metrics. Track progress, produce reports, and adjust plans as necessary.
Manages the Task Force's field team and organizing infrastructure to achieve our strategic goals, including training, supervising, and coaching field staff, interns, and volunteers.
Develops and implements strategies to expand our base of volunteers, supporters, and activists though recruitment, training, appreciation, and ongoing engagement, ensuring that we can successfully mobilize when needed.
Works with field organizers and coalition partners to coordinate actions and activities to engage and influence decision-makers and stakeholders on our campaign objectives. Works collaboratively with our policy team to engage members and volunteers on legislative and policy work. Assists in the creation of public education materials for organizing purposes.
· Collaborate with the Task Force's communications team to develop tactics including to expand the reach of people who know about the organizing work of the National LGBTQ Task Force. Ensure that our work and vision is strategically shared with the Task Force's shareholders including public speaking engagements and social media.
Works collaboratively with our Creating Change team on organizing efforts to support our annual conference.
Serves as the point person for field efforts and coalitions at multiple national, state, and local tables, working in partnership to define and develop strategies and campaigns to advance our shared goals. Leads efforts to improve field organizing among LGBTQ coalition partners at the state and local level.
Ensures successful implementation of advocacy technology tools to increase engagement by organizing staff and volunteers.
Coordinates field organizing with fundraising operations.
Develops, implements, and manages the field budget.
· Engages with our Development department to fundraise, support events and develop donor relationships for the Task Force.
RequirementsQualifications:
Experience planning and implementing effective field organizing strategies for political, ballot initiative, and/or legislative campaigns.
Experience supervising field organizing staff and volunteers.
Experience building big teams of volunteers to take collective action to build power towards a specific, measurable goal.
· Understands the intersections of oppression and has a Power, Privilege and Oppression analysis, demonstrated ability to apply analysis to team building and strategic planning.· Knowledge of the political landscape, including opportunities for cross-movement coalition-building and a deep understanding of the LGBTQ community, especially with regards to trans justice, communities of faith and communities of color.· Comfort with organizing and engaging clergy, faith leaders, and other people of faith.· Experience working closely and effectively with media platforms and familiarity with social media as an organizing tactic.· Strong written and oral communications skills.· Strong task and time management, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.· Great relationship builder and the ability to inspire others to take action.· Demonstrated ability to give and receive critical feedback.· Desire and ability to travel extensively, sometimes on short notice.· Unwavering commitment to the mission and goals of the National LGBTQ Task Force.
