Construction Working Superintendent

Vacancy expired!

Construction Working Superintendent – We are a small GC in Northern VA looking for a self starting superintendent with 3-5 years supervision experience to run high end residential remodeling and some commercial interior work. We have been in business for 28 years so far. The individual that we are looking for will have a primary focus to supervise and coordinate subcontractors and in-house carpenters and laborers, but will also be required to work with his tools to an extent. He must have an eye for detail and insure that everyone on the job does their work properly. He must have the ability to lead and direct workers to get the work done. He needs to be able to read plans and specifications and deal with clients, designers and architects. Work is primarily in DC, MD and northern VA.

Our work is split nearly 50/50 between commercial interior work and residential work. We rarely bid work as most of it is found through referral and repeat business.

We work with a number of different architects and designers that have varying abilities to prepare good construction documents. Sometimes we end up completing designs ourselves just to get the jobs done. We also subcontract most of the work. We do have in house carpenters and laborers to do basic work during the job or changes as they come up.

We need people to take control of jobs and run them and be responsible for their proper completion. This includes:

1. Making sure protection is in place and maintained during demolition and construction, both from rain and dust as well as ordinary wear and tear of construction.

2. Coordinate and insure compliance with applicable OSHA regulations

3. Reading plans and specs to understand completely the job or jobs at hand.

4. Doing take offs of materials to order proper quantities.

5. Scheduling the subs and suppliers well in advance to coordinate activities.

6. Knowledge of and insuring compliance with the local codes, the International Residential/Building Code, as applicable.

7. Sufficient knowledge of all of the sub trades to adequately monitor their work

8. Inspect all work for proper installation, including our work and our subs work.

9. Coordinate inspections with the appropriate local jurisdictions for interim and final inspections.

10. Pay attention to detail as none of our work is production work and all of it needs to be detailed very accurately.

11. May need to work more than one project at a time.

Our work hours are typically 7 AM - 3:30 PM. Work hours vary depending on where the job is. Typically commercial work is done starting early morning, residential usually mid day. You need to be on site before everyone arrives and leave after everyone has left. Overtime and/or weekend work may be necessary at times. English must be the primary language spoken. We don’t offer health benefits due to the size of our company. Please send resume with salary requirements and letters of reference. We will not pay relocation costs.
