Reports to: Owner – Footprints Floors of Fairfax

Location: Fairfax County, Virginia

Employment Type: Contract / Subcontractor

Job Overview:

We are seeking experienced hardwood floor refinishing professionals or crews to join our team on a subcontractor basis. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in sanding, staining, and refinishing hardwood floors to restore or enhance their appearance. You will be responsible for completing refinishing projects with a high level of craftsmanship, quality, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

Preparation of Hardwood Floors: Inspect floors for damage, unevenness, or wear and perform necessary repairs or replacements.

Sanding: Use professional-grade equipment (big sander/buffers/hand tools) to sand floors down to bare wood, ensuring a smooth and even surface. Must be experienced in refinishing stairways.

Staining and Sealing: Apply stains, sealers, or finishes.

Buffing and Polishing: Buff and polish the floors to provide a smooth, lustrous finish.

Clean-Up: Ensure that the worksite is clean and free of debris after completing the refinishing process.

Project Management: Coordinate with the Footprints Floors Owner to meet deadlines and ensure client satisfaction.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, including the proper use of PPE and safe operation of equipment.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of proven experience in hardwood floor refinishing, including sanding, staining, and finishing.

Skills: Strong attention to detail and high standards of workmanship – NO SHORTCUTS. Ability to work with various types of wood and finishes.

Tools: Must have access to professional-grade hardwood refinishing tools and equipment (sanders, buffers, edgers, etc.).

Transportation: Reliable transportation to travel to job sites.

Insurance: Valid general liability insurance

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in custom hardwood installations and repairs.

Ability to work with various types of finishes, including water-based, oil-based, and polyurethane.

Knowledge of the latest trends and techniques in hardwood floor refinishing.

Working Conditions:

This position requires travel to various job sites in Fairfax County.

Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary to accommodate project timelines.

Must be comfortable working in residential and commercial environments.
