The VC of Education will be responsible for guiding the development and delivery of rigorous educational programming and assessment. As a core faculty member of the department, the VC of Education will set an example for other education faculty members and help to foster a culture of educational excellence. In addition to these responsibilities, the VC of Education will play a critical role in aligning the department's education activities with its clinical and research goals and directions. This will involve working closely with the Executive Vice Chair and the DEM Chairperson to develop and implement strategic plans that advance the Department's educational mission while also supporting its broader objectives.Major Responsibilities include:Education and Teaching

Responsible for the oversight of all UME, GME, and CME programs and will collaborate with Department leadership to establish budgetary guidelines for program leaders.

Responsible for ensuring comprehensive evaluation of training programs and development of meaningful metrics for both learners and educators.

Plays a crucial role in teaching and will meet key requirements for general Core Faculty, including attending all resident conferences, select UME training sessions, and all relevant education meetings.

Collaborate with faculty to identify and develop novel, high impact educational experiences in emergency medicine.

Collaborate with non-education faculty to develop opportunities for departmentally based conferences and CME offerings.

Collaborate and work with fellowship directors to establish objective-driven curricula with measurable outcomes.

Emergency Medicine Workforce

Collaborate with clerkship, residency, and department leadership to create programming that supports the recruitment and retention of a diverse body of students, residents, and faculty into emergency medicine.

Directly assist the Director of UME with preclinical and early clinical emergency medicine experiences.

Mentorship

Provide mentorship in education science and scholarship to faculty in the education mission.

Work with education leadership to create an Education Fellowship.

Mentor education faculty in area of promotion and tenure and provide letters for faculty to support promotion and tenure.

Administration

Develop clear roles and responsibilities for clerkship, residency, and fellowship directors.

Collaborate with Department leadership to develop budget guidelines and oversight for the education mission.

Expected Salary:Salary is negotiable and commensurate with education and experience.Minimum Requirements:All physicians must be Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine ABEM/ABOEM Board Certified/Board-Eligible. Associate Professor or an equivalent combination of Assistant Professor and clinical leadership experience.Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer 8+ years’ experience in educational leadership, experience leading educational missions in a complex academic institution.

Demonstrated track record of mentoring/developing junior faculty in both educational and administrative areas.

Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic department and working with other departments.

Has strong interdisciplinary team leadership and followership skills.

Strong direct management skills and experience managing emergency medicine faculty within a complex healthcare system.

An understanding of the complexities of academic life and the interactions between departments (divisions), hospitals, and health care systems.
