Teacher/Teacher Assistant for Students with Disabilities

Our school is seeking unique team players for a very well known private school for special needs students in Volusia County.

Under the direction of the school director, the teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating flexible lesson plans and a learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.

Responsibilities:

Plan, develop and implement individualized learning plans for each student.

Teach socially acceptable behavior by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.

Maintain a current knowledge of special education best practices and trends.

Follow and implement designated curriculum guidelines

Plan and conduct activities for a balanced enrichment program.

Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.

Maintain regular communication with parents by means of email, conferences and daily progress reports.

Maintain accurate and complete student records.

Coordinate with the director on delegated tasks.

Distribute report cards at designated due times

Communicate and coordinate with other teachers on lesson plans, events, tools and support.

Participation & Guideline Requirements: It is vital for the success of the school that all staff and teachers be actively involved in all areas of educational functions. Below outlines the requirements for the school year.

Staff participates in at least 50% of extra curricular events; fundraisers, community support, field trips, etc.

Chaperone and carpool field trips.

Each staff elects 2 days/week of aftercare and early arrival (priority is given to veterans).

30 min unpaid lunch break for full-time employees over 6 hours.

Pre-planning scheduled hours per director and class schedules.

Each class chooses an elective celebration to host. See director for celebration list.

Staff must attend mandatory teacher planning days and parent teacher conferences.

Possible flexibility for Summer Camp.

Job Requirements: Bachelors Degree (ESE certification or experience preferred)
