DescriptionLee County is seeking a reliable, dependable, and professional candidate to fill the role of Customer Service Specialist in our Permitting section. This position performs advanced, technical customer service work responsible for the identification and issuance of required permits. Employees are responsible for providing assistance and information in the areas of building plans review, permit issuance, zoning, development orders, flood plain development requirements, coastal construction zones, contractor licensing, inspection tracking and issuance of Certificates of Occupancy and/or Compliance.Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Permitting leadership team, performs activities related to intake and issuance of permits; and provides direct in person, electronic, and telephone customer service.

Understand and effectively communicate building permit procedures, for intake and issuance of permits including Occupancy requests.

Develop and maintain proficiency in permit maintenance tasks, including revisions, void/cancellation, extension/completion requests, subcontractor requests, to ensure permit records reflect accurate information.

Develop and maintain proficiency in the use of the tools of the department, including established procedures and regulatory documents.

Develop and maintain proficiency in the use of the electronic resources, including Accela permit tracking software, LeeSpInS Geographic Information System, eConnect online resource, document retention systems, and web resources as assigned.

Support process improvements and technological changes within the department.

Provide accurate and consistent information on both permitting and zoning processes, as assigned in person, by telephone, and via electronic means.

Develop and maintain an understanding of the Lee Plan and Lee County Land Development Code, as applicable to assigned duties.

Display positive customer service skills in all interactions, with the public and with colleagues alike

Education, Experience, Licensing

Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to High School/GED and two years of direct face-to-face customer service experience, working with the general public, permitting experience, or closely related experience.

Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is preferred.

Supplemental Information

Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive and negative situations in person, by phone or email.

Ability to operate necessary equipment, including personal computer, copier, scanners (including wide), calculator, fax and other standard office equipment.

Ability to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills in a non confrontational manner is preferred.

Ability to deal with the public in a prompt, professional and courteous manner.

Ability to perform basic mathematical skills in determining square footage, linear feet, etc.

Ability to learn associated computer systems applicable to permitting, such as Accela, GIS, etc.

Extensive data entry, word processing and computer use.

Excellent customer service skills.

Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

Knowledge of commonly used construction terms.

Tasks involve sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching and performing other physical requirements equivalent with demands of the position.

Manual dexterity to operate equipment in performance of duties.

May occasionally lift and/or carry/move up to 20 pounds.

Bilingual (Spanish-Speaking) is preferred.

The work days are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m (hours may be adjusted based on the section's needs).
